Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace:

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon;

Where there is discord, union;

Where there is doubt, faith;

Where there is despair, hope;

Where there is darkness, light;

Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek

To be consoled, as to console;

To be understood, as to understand;

To be loved, as to love;

For it is in giving that we receive,

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

And it is in dying that we are born

To Eternal Life.

- Saint Francis of Assisi

Shanti (Peace) - Shanti - Shanti

May there be peace in the higher realms;

may there be peace in the firmament;

may there be peace on earth.

May the waters flow peacefully;

may the herbs and plants grow peacefully;

may all the divine powers bring unto us peace.

The Supreme Lord is peace.

May we all be in peace, peace, and only peace;

and may that peace come unto each of us.  - Hindu Prayer

From the Vedas - Artharda Veda XIX

From that which we fear, make us fearless.

O bounteous One, assist us with your aid.

May the atmosphere we breathe

breathe fearlessness into us:

fearlessness on earth and fearlessness in heaven!

May fearlessness surround us above and below!

May we be without fear of friend or foe!

May we be without fear of the known and the unknown!

May we be without fear by night and by day!

Let all the world be my friend!

Hindu Prayer  - for Peace

May the strength of God pilot us.  May the power of God preserve us. May the wisdom of

God instruct us. May the hand of God protect us. May the way of God direct us. May the

shield of God defend us. May the host of God guard us against the snares of the evil one

and the temptations of the world.

- Saint Patrick

O Thou full of compassion, I commit and commend myself unto Thee, in whom I am,

and live, and know.  Be Thou the Goal of my pilgrimage, and my Rest by the way.  Let

my soul take refuge from the crowding turmoil of worldly thoughts beneath the

shadow of Thy wings; let my heart, this sea of restless waves, find peace in Thee, O God.

- Saint Augustine

Praying For Our Enemies

Most merciful and loving Father,

We beseech Thee most humbly, even with all our hearts,

To pour out upon our enemies with bountiful hands

Whatsoever things Thou knowest may do them good.

And chiefly a sound and uncorrupt mind,

Where-through they may know Thee and love Thee

In true charity and with their whole heart.

And love us, Thy children, for Thy sake.

Let not their first hating of us turn to their harm,

But seeing that we cannot do them good for want of ability,

Lord, we desire their amendment and our own.

Separate them not from us by punishing them,

But join and knit them to us by Thy favorable dealing with them.

And seeing we be all ordained to citizens of the one everlasting city,

Let us begin to enter into that way here already by mutual love,

Which may bring us right forth thither.      Amen.

(Handed down from the time of the Middle Ages.)

May all beings

everywhere

plagued with sufferings of body and mind

quickly be freed from their illnesses.

May those frightened

cease to be afraid,

and may those bound be free.

May the powerless find power,

and may people think of befriending one another.

May those who find themselves in trackless,

fearful wilderness---

the children,

the aged,

the unprotected--

be guarded by beneficial celestials,

and may they swiftly attain Buddhahood.

Buddhist Prayer - for Peace

Although the people living

across the ocean surrounding us,

I believe are all our brothers and sisters,

why are there constant troubles in this world?

Why do winds and waves rise in the oceans surrounding us?

I only earnestly wish that the wind will soon puff away

all the clouds which are hanging over the tops of mountains.

Shinto Prayer - for Peace

In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful.

Praise be to the Lord of the Universe

who has created us and made us into tribes and nations,

That we may know each other,

not that we may despise each other.

If the enemy incline towards peace,

do thou also incline towards peace,

and trust Allah,

for the Allah is the one that heareth and knoweth all things.

And the servants of God,

Most Gracious are those who walk on the Earth in humility,

and when we address them,

we say "PEACE."

Muslim Prayer - for Peace

We pray to God to eradicate all the misery in the world:

that understanding triumph over ignorance,

that generosity triumph over indifference,

that trust triumph over contempt,

and that truth triumph over falsehood.

Zoroastrian Prayer - for Peace

Oh Great Spirit of our Ancestors,

I raise my pipe to you.

To your messengers the four winds,

and to Mother Earth who provides for your children.

Give us the wisdom to teach our children to love,

to respect, and to be kind to each other

so that they may grow with peace of mind .

Let us learn to share all good things

that you provide for us on this Earth.

Native American Prayer - for Peace

Grant us peace,

your most precious gift,

o eternal... source of peace.

And give us will to proclaim its message

to all the people of the earth.

Sim Shalom tova uvracha,

chein va chehsed v'rachamim aleinu v'al kol Yisraeil amehcha.

Come let us go up the mountain of the Lord,

that we may walk the paths of the Most High.

And we shall beat our swords into ploughshares,

and our spears into pruning hooks.

Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,

neither shall they learn war any more.

And none shall be afraid,

for the mouth of the Lord of Hosts has spoken.

Judaism Prayer - for Peace

God adjudges us according to our deeds,

not the coat that we wear:

that Truth is above everything,

but higher still is truthful living.

Know that we attaineth God when we loveth,

and only victory endures in consequences of which no one is defeated.

Sikh Prayer - for Peace

Peace and Universal Love

is the essence of the Gospel

preached by all Enlightened Ones.

The Lord has preached

that equanimity is the dharma .

Forgive do I creatures all,

and let all creatures forgive me.

Unto all have I amity,

and unto none enmity.

Know that violence

is the root cause of all miseries in the world.

Violence, in fact, is the knot of bondage.

"Do not injure any living being."

This is the eternal, perennial,

and unalterable way of spiritual life.

Jainism Prayer - for Peace

Oh God,

lead us from the unreal to the real.

Oh God,

lead us from darkness to light.

Oh God,

lead us from death to immortality.

Shanti, Shanti, Shanti unto all.

Oh Lord God almighty,

may there be peace in celestial regions.

May there be peace on Earth.

May the waters be appeasing.

May herbs be wholesome,

and may trees, plants bring peace to all.

May all beneficent beings bring peace to us.

May thy Vedic Law propagate peace all through the world.

May all things be a source of peace to us.

And may thy peace itself,

bestow peace on all

and may that peace come to me also.

Hindu Prayer - for Peace

Be generous in prosperity,

and thankful in adversity.

Be fair in judgment,

and guarded in thy speech,

Be a lamp unto those who walk in darkness,

and a home to the stranger.

Be eyes to the blind,

and a guiding light unto the feet of the erring.

Be a breath of life to the body of humankind,

a dew to the soil of the human heart,

and a fruit upon the tree of humility.

Baha'i Prayer - for Peace

O Blessed LORD, please hear my prayer

And help all people be

Kind and good to everyone,

And live in peace with Thee.  Amen. - Anonymous

throughout the world who live and die in poverty and hunger.

Give them through our hands this day their daily bread,

and by our understanding love, give peace and joy.

- Mother Teresa

O Lord, grant us to love Thee; grant that we may love those that love Thee; grant that

we may do the deeds that win Thy love. Make the love of Thee to be dearer to us than

ourselves, than our families, than wealth, and even than cool water. – Mohammed

Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace, goodwill toward men.

- Saint Luke

 (The Lord's Prayer)

OUR FATHER, Who art in Heaven,

Hallowed be Thy Name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done

On earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And leave us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power,

And the glory forever.  Amen.

- Lord Jesus (recorded by Saint Matthew 6:9)

G
od, give us grace to accept with serenity

the things that cannot be changed,

courage to change the things

which should be changed,

and the wisdom to distinguish

the one from the other.

Living one day at a time,

Enjoying one moment at a time,

Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,

Taking, as Jesus did,

This sinful world as it is,

Not as I would have it,

Trusting that You will make all things right,

If I surrender to Your will,

So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,

And supremely happy with You forever in the next. Amen.

- Reinhold Niebuhr - The Serenity Prayer, original version

Father, unto Thee I pray,

Thou hast guarded me all day;

Safe I am while in Thy sight,

Safely let me sleep tonight.

Bless my friends, the whole world bless,

Help me to learn helpfulness;

Keep me ever in Thy sight:

So to all I say goodnight.  Amen.

LORD, open our hearts,

That we may love each other as You love us.

Renew in us your spirit,

LORD, free us and make us one.  -  Mother Teresa
